Reminders for Class on February 4th - Stage Combat!

Hello Class!

We’ve had a wonderful last few weeks! So far we’ve covered the creative mind, the mind’s eye, emotions, and movement. I hope everyone is beginning to see how they build upon each other. You have to get creative and see things in your mind’s eye, gain perspective for your character, you have to get in deep to their emotions and what they may be feeling, why they’re feeling it; and then you have to find out what they DO with those emotions. What movements do they make, what outward expressions etc.?

But here’s the big announcement…. This week, we’ll be working on STAGE COMBAT!

That’s right; you’ll learn how to kick, punch, throttle, choke, twist arms, fall, slap, and much more! But be warned! Stage combat is a very serious business involving much practice, taking it slowly and being extremely careful and deliberate. I won’t allow tom-foolery when it comes to pretending to beat each other up. ;) When you come to class I’ll lay down the ground rules and expect everyone to keep them; or else I’m afraid they’ll have to sit out.

Here are the assignments for this week:
·         Everyone: Read Twelfth Night through Act III, (Here’s a link to an online version if anyone needs it)
·         Killian: Prepare a short two-minute summary Of Act III, Scenes 1-3 (It’s only a few pages) And Be prepared to give your Elizabethan presentation. (I WILL give you time, don’t let me forget)
·         Forrest: Prepare a short two-minute summary of Act III, Scene IV.
·         Everyone: Show up on time! I realize circumstances happen, but I need you to do your best to show up on time. When we don’t get started until half an hour late because people haven’t shown up yet, it detracts from the overall class experience.
·         Everyone: Remember to check the blog for updates, fun facts, videos from class, reminders, etc. http://shakespearealaska.blogspot.com/

See you Friday!
