What Students Are Saying

What Students Are Saying:

I realize that the goal of a great education isn't to shape the students to the system, but to shape the system to students. The youth involved in my classes over the years have had a huge influence on my methods as I attempt to meet their desires and mold the program to who they are. Sir Walter Scott once said that "All men who have turned out worth anything have had the chief hand in their own education." and I believe he was right. So, to make sure I was still on the same page as the students, I asked some of them the following questions:

Did you enjoy the class/classes? Why or why not?

I loved the class that I took from him and another mentor. It was super fun, it was educational and it really helped improve my skills.
~Nathan O.

I really enjoyed taking classes from Andrew. It was fun because I got to make a lot of new friends, hang out with some old friends, and of course I got to act a lot.
~Bashan W.

I enjoyed the classes because they were exciting and engaging, while still being educational.
~Sabrina S.

I loved the classes! they really helped me break out of my shell and be more outgoing.
~Anonymous Student

I absolutely loved my class. I loved playing games with the group and learning about the history behind some of Shakespeare's works.
~Megan M.

What was the best part of the class/classes you took?

The best part of the class was performing an actual play, no doubt. It was a lot of hard work, but a lot of fun.
~Myriah T.

Playing games and laughing with all of the other students.
~Kayla C.

One of my favorite parts has to be when we talk about poetry. Who would have thought that anybody could write a whole play in iambic pentameter?
~Sabrina S.

Probably practicing for the play the second semester. It was really fun being in a play with all my friends.
~Anonymous Student

The Best part was the exercises we played, Some of them were so funny we all couldn't stop laughing.
~Anonymous Student

I would say the best part was probably the performance we did at the end of the class. It was great to be able to show what we learned and get up on stage.
~Megan M.

How did you feel about Shakespeare when you began the class? How do you feel about him now?

At the beginning I thought that Shakespeare was an old man who used big , fancy words at an extremely unhealthy level so as to confuse his audience. Now I feel that Shakespeare is the best vocabulary builder ever; even though if you use it people will look at you like you're from another planet.
~Karl G.

I didn't know much about him really. So I wasn't sure if I'd like the educational part of the class, but after learning about one of his plays and the man himself, I really like him!
~Nathan O.

I didn't really know anything about Shakespeare at all when I first began taking classes, and so I didn't really care much. But now that I have taken multiple classes about Shakespeare and have done a few of his plays, I really enjoy Shakespeare and his works.
~Bashan W.

I didn't think about him much. Now, he's very poetic.
~Titus C.

Although I was indifferent before, Shakespeare won't go unnoticed anymore.
~Sabrina S.

Describe your experience and the feelings you had about performing Shakespeare in front of a live audience.

It was awesome! At one point my little brother even stood up and quoted one of my funnier lines.
~Karl G

I was one of the main characters in Much Ado About Nothing. And I LOVED it. It was probably the most fun I've ever had putting on a play.
~Nathan O.

When I did my first Shakespeare play, I felt a little nervous, but not so much as I did excited. I have always wanted to act ever since I was little and this was my chance to get into it. I loved it.
~Bashan W.

When you get on that stage and start speaking, knowing you understand every word you're saying and being able to convey that message to the audience, you feel like you've got some kind of super power. There is nothing more rewarding than making an audience laugh or cry because of something you said.
~Sabrina S.

Is there anything you would like to share with prospective students about the class/classes?

If you're thinking about taking it, just do it. Its fun and you learn a lot!
~Karl G.

Be ready to be busy, to learn a lot and to have a lot of fun!
~Nathan O.

This class is amazing. You have a wonderful instructor, and great people to work with. The class will help you out of your shell and make lots of new friends.
~Anonymous Student

There isn't really anything I would like to say here other than, "This class is fun!"
~Bashan W.

Would you recommend future classes mentored by me to your peers? Why or why not?

Definitely. Even if you don't plan on going into acting, I would say yes, it will build your self esteem, and you'll make many amazing friendships.
~Nathan O.

I'd recommend this class to everyone. It's not just Shakespeare; it's speech, poetry, philosophy, theater, and so much more. It's a comfortable environment, and I always looked forward to the classes.
~Sabrina S.

I would! Andrew is a great instructor and teaches very well, he has a way to get you up and moving and acting.
~Anonymous Student

I've already recommended the classes to several of my friends. I hope to take them again along with them :)
~Megan M.
