About

Shakespeare Conquest Class of 2011
The Mission of Classical Mentoring is simple:

“To unveil the Genius within through the study of Shakespeare and other classical works.”

I firmly believe that every individual is endowed by his creator with his own personal Genius. All people are capable of doing great things, so why should they be treated otherwise? Believing in Genius is key to everything I do. Many great scholars have speculated that we never meet an ordinary in a person in our lives. C.S. Lewis in particular has stated that if we knew the true potential of those around us we would be “strongly tempted to worship [them]," and I agree. I created Classical Mentoring because I truly believe that everyone has a Genius inside of them—it just needs to be unveiled.

Unveiling genius is, of course, the difficult part. Genius can be found hundreds of different ways in hundreds of different places. The best way, though, is to create what many call an “environment of learning.” This environment is one where all people involved understand and respect each other’s Genius, where both student and mentor alike are inspired to learn from each other, and where students are surrounded by likeminded peers and mentors who encourage each other to be great. It is in this kind of environment that Genius-hood naturally begins to develop and take a definitive shape.

With Classical Mentoring, I try to take these three elements of a learning environment: Respect, Inspiration, and Encouragement, and incorporate them into everything that I do. By doing this, I find youth building stronger relationships, communicating better, having more fun—and most importantly—discovering that they are far more than just an ordinary person.
